The Laban Dance Centre

A bit of History: The Laban is located in the UK, South-East London, Deptford to be precise. The centre  focuses on the training of contemporary dance artists. The founder Rudolf Von Laban was born into the Austro-Hungarian empire, He was a dance artist and some what of a theorist and dance historian who created the Laban movement by studying human form and the relationship of space around it.
The architects behind the design of the Laban are innovative duo Herzog and de Meuron.
On approach to the centre we are introduced by the garden, which is organised and serves as an entrance 'yard' to the centre, the garden forms key movements of the Laban dance form and is part of the entity creating the Laban.
At two selected locations of the building we have these two gracious graveled and black painted spiral stairs, magnificently wonderful one can interpret these as flow of rhythm which is evident through out the building design.
We see continuation of flow and movement through out the building.
This meticulous sculpture reflects the Laban dance notation.
Selective materials and design indicates the well thought approach towards pleasant acoustics
"Light wells" encouraging natural light through out the building.
A sense of space; noting the visual  sights of utility services.
The use of glass in the Laban gives a sense of openness while segregating studio space, the same concept is used in the recently design Evelyn Grace Academy by Zaha Hadid.
